The North West covers a huge area with very few behaviour support practitioners. Distance, wet-season road closures and FIFO rosters can make it hard to get specialist help. A mix of telehealth, visits and coaching for local supporters can close that gap.
Does telehealth work for behaviour support?
For many families it works well. Coaching often works best in your own home, with the people who are there every day. With consent, short video clips can show what is happening without a practitioner in the room. We combine telehealth with in-person visits where they are needed.
When the internet is patchy
- Phone calls instead of video
- Lower-bandwidth video or shorter sessions
- Written strategies and visual supports shared in advance
- Planning sessions around the best connection times
Working around FIFO and shift rosters
We can book sessions on days both parents are home, or include a parent by video while they are on site, so everyone hears the same strategies.
Building local capacity
Training local support workers, teachers and family members means strategies keep working between sessions. That matters most where specialist visits are less frequent.
Where we support
We have immediate capacity across the Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne, with our office in Broome and local offices opening soon in Karratha, Port Hedland, Carnarvon, Onslow and Exmouth.
