How is Positive Behaviour Support funded through the NDIS?

Where behaviour support sits in your plan, and what self, plan and NDIA-managed means for you.

Positive Behaviour Support is funded as a Capacity Building support in an NDIS plan. Where it sits depends on the type of plan you have.

Where it sits in your plan

  • Older plans: behaviour support is funded from the Improved Relationships budget
  • Newer (PACE) plans: behaviour support has its own Behaviour Support budget

Behaviour support can’t be claimed from other budgets, such as Improved Daily Living. Make sure it is funded in the plan before an assessment starts. If you need social skills support as well, raise both at your planning meeting.

How your plan is managed

  • Self-managed: you, your nominee or representative pay providers and keep records. We provide an invoice for agreed supports.
  • Plan-managed: a plan manager pays our invoices. We’ll ask for their details when you refer.
  • NDIA-managed: the NDIA pays registered providers. Our services are delivered under the NDIS registration of Assist Disability Services Pty Ltd, so NDIA-managed participants can be supported.

Getting behaviour support into a plan

If behaviour support is not in the plan yet, talk to your support coordinator, local area coordinator or planner. Reports from doctors, schools or therapists describing the behaviours of concern and their impact can help show why it is needed.

Not sure how behaviour support is funded in your plan? Please still contact us. We can talk it through and help you work out the next step.
